Vor einem großen Walde

In the fairy tale, the forest appears as detached from social and political structures, separating the tamed human settlement from the threatening unknown. Thus, it became a means of consolidating power and confirming the protective norms of the village. Fairy-tale heroes traverse a place of crisis where the previously known laws no longer apply. Their disorientation paradoxically leads them to new insights and identities. The hero is given a new understanding of his society and an examination of its values. Surrounded by the uncanny, man experiences his limits, but also his capacity for doubt and strength. I see the forest as one of the last refuges of the human imagination: a place yet to be.
