Workshop with Yasmin Nebenführ
Location:
Festival Headquarters (GREEN DOOR artists space & gallery, Kempelengasse 8, 1100 Vienna)
Found imagery has the potential to distort fact and fiction. It can organise and visually exemplify thoughts, stories and histories. By collecting, assembling, and re-presenting found material, we contemplate the ownership of images, and further, collective memory. We instantly begin to ask questions: who captured the image? Where was it captured? What was the purpose of the original image? Does it matter to know? Additionally, do fleeting connotations and fragmentary memories already tell us much more than what we think we see? How does the image fit into stories we already know, which historiographies does it draw on?
In this workshop, participants are invited to delve into the possibilities of image-making processes such as collage, assemblage, scrapbooking, archiving and more. Material will be provided but it is encouraged to bring image material to work with and discuss. All media and ideas are welcome!
Yasmin Nebenführ is an Australian photo-media artist based in Berlin. Predominantly working with extensive collections of found imagery, Yasmin utilises her archiving work experience throughout her experimental practice and constantly seeks new ways to transform and re-present image material.
