The nature of self-portraiture is performative – an art form that captures moments during a performance by the photographers themselves. As both exhibitionists (models) and voyeurs (photographers), performers must ask themselves whether they want to portray themselves as the world sees them or as they want to be seen. In the first part we will have a theoretical discussion about the usefulness of self-portraits, starting with an introduction to my own artistic practice. This is followed by an interactive discussion about the art form with references to works by other artists. In the second part we will put theory into practice in the exhibition space.

Bring your own digital/analogue camera with self/remote release and a sturdy tripod. You are also welcome to bring costumes or objects to be used for the self-portraits.
